Picture a dreamy Italian afternoon by the sea, chalk stone slabs, billowing white linen, the turquoise blue of the Mediterranean, dusty pink roses and a cute cup full of Gelato and you might have imagined Toni and Bruno’s wedding day! A day filled with so much beauty, love, and culture we know you will all love it just as much as we did.

Toni and Bruno decided to get married in beautiful Byron Bay at the tail end of winter in 2022 which is the perfect time of year for clear blue skies, the most comfortable temperatures, and very little chance of rain! After booking their wedding day with the amazing team at Byron Bay Weddings and securing Fig Tree Restaurant as their venue, they enlisted our help to bring together their aesthetic vision for the day.

Let us walk you through how we brought a little bit of ‘la dolce vita’ to Byron Bay!

The Ceremony

Choosing to hold their wedding celebrations at Fig Tree Restaurant meant they would be saying ‘I do’ in front of one of the most breath-taking views in the country with the iconic Byron Bay Lighthouse and Australia’s most easterly point directly behind them so we were already off to a fantastic start!

Our modern, asymmetrical Broken Arch Arbour was the perfect structure to frame Toni and Bruno during their ceremony and hold the fabulous floral installation created by Nikki and her team at Nikau Flora.

Nikki combined roses, white andromedas, Queen Anne’s lace, tulips, cymbidium orchids, variegated pittosporums, grey smoke bush, magnolias, hydrangeas and garden roses in dirty blush, white, cream and nude to create this one-of-a-kind, romantic installation.

Toni and Bruno had initially chosen our oak cross-back chairs for their guest seating during their ceremony, however, on their wedding week, our brand new blonde woven chairs had just arrived at our warehouse. After unboxing them, we knew they would be the perfect chairs for Toni & Bruno’s wedding day so we immediately sent them a photo to consider, and, luckily, they agreed they were the best fit!

Inspired by the 1920’s Austrian architects Josef Hoffman and Josef Frank’s famous Hoffman 811 chairs, handmade in Europe and featuring hand-woven cane seats, our blonde woven chairs tied together the overall aesthetic of Toni & Bruno’s wedding day seamlessly.

Our natural Malawi chairs and natural Bamileke coffee table were the perfect combination for Toni & Bruno’s signing table & chairs, nestled underneath the 150-year-old fig tree.

Cocktail Hour

During cocktail hour, Toni & Bruno opted to stay on the Fig Tree grounds for their photoshoot whilst their guests lounged by the pool enjoying Margaritas and canapes.

We utilized the included cocktail furniture at their venue as a foundation and added some Ibiza high bars and stools and the white Malawi lounge set under the grapevines for some additional seating.

The main feature Toni & Bruno wanted to add to this space was draping across the poolside pergolas to help create a European poolside cabana feel. We enlisted the help of Sonja from the Byron Bay Prop Shop and she created the fabulous white linen draping that became the main focal point of cocktail hour by the pool.

To add the finishing touches to cocktail hour we scattered our neutral cushion package across the lounges to provide some texture and depth and add a little extra comfort for their guests. We also dotted our white urns, filled with installations by Nikau Flora, around the pool and by the stairs which flowed perfectly into the Bougainvillea wrapping its way around the pergolas.

The reception

Just as the sun began to set, Toni & Bruno’s guests moved inside the Fig Tree Restaurant and were joined soon after by the newlyweds for speeches & a magnificent family-style feast.

To build the base of Toni & Bruno’s tablescapes we utilised the included American oak trestle tables within the restaurant but covered these with our white French linen tablecloths to continue the theme of white billowing linen from the pool area into the reception space.

We repurposed the blonde woven chairs from the ceremony for their guest seating, which worked seamlessly with the wooden floors and exposed beams in the ceiling of the restaurant space.  We then added modern gold cutlery, white rattan charger plates, light blush linen napkins, balloon wine glasses and modern water glasses as the table settings. We kept the standard white main & side plates provided by Fig Tree as these paired beautifully with the overall look.

To complete the design aesthetic we sourced some blush taper candles and placed these on our chalk stone slabs amongst Nikau Flora’s mix of neutral, textured, handmade ceramics and sand oak lab vessels to add some height, filled with the same floral combinations they used throughout the ceremony. The fabulous Zoe from The Seasalter came on board as their stationery provider and created their personalized menus, welcome sign, seating plan & table names (which continued the Italian theme with names such as the La Dolce Vita table and the Love in Portofino table to name a few.

Finishing the evening with a mix of cake & macaroons created by the very talented Mother of the Bride, Toni & Bruno utilised our white round textured plinths and marble & gold display stands for their delicious dessert.
